Five concepts of food preservation.
Buddhism believes that you should have five visualizations when eating: Count how much work you have done, and measure where you came from.
□Thinking about one's own virtues, there is a complete lack of supply.
□Beware of alienation and greed.
□A good medicine for treating dryness.
□For the purpose of enlightenment, you should receive this food.
1. Calculate the amount of work and measure the place where you came from. The ancients said: "For every porridge and meal, you should consider the difficulty of coming from there." The meals we usually eat are cultivated, irrigated, fertilized, weeded, and harvested by farmers.
Then it was sold by merchants, washed, cooked, and finally delivered to us. I don’t know how many people’s efforts and efforts have been spent.
As the saying goes, "It's noon when we are hoeing, and the sweat is dripping on the soil. Who knows that every grain of rice on the plate is hard work." Therefore, when we eat, we should be grateful and cherish blessings.
Loving things and cherishing blessings is a virtue in life. However, in modern society, with economic prosperity and material abundance, many people have become accustomed to extravagance and waste, eating without restraint, or squandering and discarding at will, wasting natural resources and not knowing how to cherish blessings.
There is a story about a rich man who had great wealth and lived a luxurious life. He often threw grains of rice into the ditch.
There was a frugal monk who picked up these grains of rice from the ditch every day, dried them in the sun, and stored them.
Later, when there was a famine and the rich man became a beggar, the monk gave him rice grains that the rich man had thrown away. When the rich man found out, he felt very ashamed.
This story tells us that we should "think about the days when there are days, and don't think about the days when there are no days." Always remind yourself to be diligent and thrifty.
In Buddhism, food and drink are all provided by Tan Yue.
"Sengji Vinaya" says: "It is all because of faith that Tan Yue has reduced his appetite. In order to seek blessings, he gives it to us. The so-called Tan Xin grease is a practitioner's blood and sweat. Without practice, a grain of rice cannot be eliminated." "The Buddha observes that a grain of rice is as big as a grain of rice.
Just like Mount Sumeru, if you don't follow the path, you will return wearing a coat of hair and a horn. "A grain of rice is made from the combination of all causes and conditions, how can it be wasted easily?"
Therefore, as a Buddhist disciple, you should feel ashamed, know how to cherish blessings when it comes to food and drink, whether they are good or bad, and should not be greedy for increases or decreases.
2. Think about your own virtues and lack of due offerings. As a disciple of the Buddha, when accepting food and drink offerings, you should reflect on whether your behavior is in line with the moral precepts?
Can you afford the support?
If you have the two beneficial virtues of diligently cultivating the three studies and guiding all living beings, it is called complete, and you can accept the offering; if you do not have it, it is called lacking, and you should feel ashamed to receive it.
It is mentioned in many scriptures that Buddhist disciples who receive charity from others will commit countless sins if they do not practice well.
For example, the "Binima Sutra" records: "If you do not sit in meditation and recite sutras, do not engage in Buddhist and Sangha affairs, and accept charity from others, you will fall for it." The "Dhammapada Sutra" also says: When the Buddha was still alive, there was a bhikkhu.
After having a full meal every day, he goes back to sleep. He only cares about the comfort of his body and does not know how to practice diligently.
After the Buddha learned about it, he sternly admonished him and used his previous life's karma and retribution to enlighten him: "In the past when the Buddha Weiwei lived in the world, you became a monk. However, due to greed for profit, you did not chant sutras, recite precepts, or practice diligently.
Later, your consciousness was reincarnated as a worm on an ox or a horse for 50,000 years. After 50,000 years, it was reincarnated as a water worm like a screw, a clam shell, or a silverfish in a tree. How are you now?
After easily suffering the consequences of his sins and becoming a monk, why are he still so greedy for sleep?" When the bhikkhu heard about his past life, he felt ashamed and terrified. The five negative clouds of confusion were suddenly eliminated, and he attained the status of Arahant.
Zen Master Baizhang Huaihai of the Tang Dynasty devoted himself to farming all his life, setting an eternal example of "a day without work, a day without food." When he was over eighty years old, he still worked hard in the fields every day. His disciples couldn't bear it, so they put away their farming tools.
Hiding, Zen Master Huaihai couldn't find tools to do things, so he stopped eating.
As the saying goes, "Don't slack off for a day, don't eat a meal in vain."
3. Beware of alienation and greed. Common people often make three mistakes when eating: □ Be greedy when seeing high-quality food, or for food that can make the body strong and the skin smooth.
□Reject and hate low-quality and coarse food.
□ Not distinguishing between good and not bad food, and not knowing where it comes from, is ignorance.
If you have the above-mentioned three kinds of thoughts of greed, anger and delusion in your diet, you will become corrupted, so you should be vigilant and prevent them.
In addition, regarding diet, if you eat too much and do not know how to control it, many diseases will also occur.
"Buddha's Medical Sutra" says: "There are ten causes and conditions for people to get sick: 1. Sitting for a long time without lying down, 2. Not having enough food to eat, 3. Sadness." "Nikanzi Sutra" says: "People eat too much,
Being sluggish will result in great losses in the present and the next life. You will suffer from sleep problems and will be annoyed by others. You will also find it difficult to sleep due to depression, so you should eat more at the right time. "It can be seen from this that people who eat too much will be prone to sleepiness, illness, sexual intercourse, and inability to be energetic.
, having too many worldly pleasures and other five sins.
Since overeating has so many consequences, we should pay more attention to it and exercise control.
Another sequelae of overeating is "obesity".
In the past, King Pasenadi was overweight due to his greed for food. He even had difficulty moving and breathing, so he anxiously asked the Buddha for instructions on how to lose weight.
Moderation is appropriate in everything, and the same goes for diet.
"The Agama Sutra" records: "If you eat too much, you will be short of breath, full of body, and have irregular pulses, which will make your heart congested and make you feel restless when sitting or lying down. If you eat less, your body will be weak, your heart will be hung, and your mind will not be stable."
It can be seen that a moderate diet is very important.
