Shantou has become a symbol of China's new generation of gourmet capital with the help of China and Sanlian Life Weekly. I haven't been to Shantou to worship food, but I really dare not say that I am a food lover!
I have been to Shantou for more than 2 times myself. Although I am not a Chaoshan person, I am definitely a loyal fan of Chaoshan flavor. Every time I go to Shantou, I will ask my local friends to be guides and take me through the streets to find all kinds of delicious food. However, at this time, I found that Shantou people have become disunited! Because every food resort recommended by Shantou friends is different, such as braised goose and pig soup, all of which have their own interests, and there is no unified thinking, understanding and high consciousness at all. Having said that, however, this serious disagreement has benefited me a lot. With all kinds of Chaoshan friends, I have tasted Chaoshan from different angles and styles. After a long time, I, a stranger who can't even speak Chaoshan dialect, am keen to recommend Chaoshan cuisine to friends from other places:
First of all, I would recommend pancakes with sugar onions. Many people don't know what sugar onion is. In fact, it is not onion, but a dessert made from maltose. It's very crisp, and it's covered with a layer of soft bread and various ingredients such as peanut paste. It tastes really good.
Many people don't understand why there are so many desserts in Chaoshan. According to the research of Zhang Xinmin, a scholar of food culture, the sugar industry is actually closely related to the history of Chaoshan area. In the early Chaoshan area, the sugar industry was developed and became the local economic pillar. Most of the earliest wave merchants were sugar merchants, so the local historical tradition of eating sweets is very long. In addition to eating seafood and beef balls, we also remember to taste Chaoshan's long history and eat its unique dessert.
since it's not annoying to talk about sugar onions, I'd like to recommend another dessert, square bean curd, which Shantou people like to eat. Very hard tofu pudding, with a lot of peanut and sesame sugar powder added in it, is quite different from the smooth and tender tofu pudding we eat, and it can be regarded as a unique candy scenery.
another thing to recommend is fish rice. Many people have eaten frozen fish rice in restaurants, but what I have eaten in Shantou Dahao is fish rice with temperature, which Mr. Cai Lan also recommended to taste. It is different from the frozen fish rice we eat in restaurants. The hot fish rice has a rare taste of smoothness and softness, and it tastes completely different from the frozen fish rice. ▲ puffer fish rice is the most amazing cooking technique for puffer fish that I have ever seen
In addition, I would recommend those friends in Guangzhou to eat diarrhea in Shantou, because Guangzhou people regard diarrhea as their early Bible. In fact, Chaoshan people also eat diarrhea, but diarrhea in Chaoshan is completely different from diarrhea in Guangzhou.
I sometimes think that Shantou and Guangzhou belong to Guangdong Province, but their cultural characteristics are completely different. This is also a very interesting tale of two cities, two flowers and a wonderful taste experience ~
