In ancient Indian legend, there was a clever young man who went into the mountains to learn Taoism and practiced strictly under the guidance of Master for many years. Master told him that he had learned and could go down the mountain to benefit the society, and warned him not to be selfish and not to do things at the expense of others. The young man went back to his hometown and hid in the secret room to continue his practice. Sure enough, one day, he called the elf he wanted. The genie said, "I am an elf summoned by you from another world. You are my master, and I can satisfy any wish you have."
The young man said, "I have learned the true story of Master. After years of cultivation in the mountains, I have gained the magical power to command the elves. When I first met you, I wonder how capable you are. Can you satisfy all my wishes as you said? " The genie replied, "Yes, master, I am your slave, and I will do whatever you want, but on one condition."
The young man said, "Tell me quickly if you have any conditions." The genie said, "No matter what you want, there is a miracle from heaven. If you have one, there will be two from your neighbor." The young man said, "It doesn't matter. As long as my purpose can be achieved, I don't care about other people's affairs. Let me think about it tonight and start early tomorrow morning. "
The young man thought about it all night. He felt that he needed a lot of things, which one should he start with, and how to arrange a beautiful day in the future, hoping to be the happiest person in the world. The next morning, he called out the genie and ordered him to "turn my straw house into a palace." In the blink of an eye, the original thatched cottage disappeared and became a magnificent grand palace, but when I opened the window, I saw that there were two identical grand palaces in my neighbor's house. Later, the young man continued to give orders to the elves, asking for luxurious carriages, exquisite furnishings, silk clothes, beautiful women slaves, treasures of gold and silver, wine, food, etc., but everything he owned, his neighbors got twice as much as him without any effort.
All the young people's wishes have been fulfilled, but when they see that his neighbor is richer than him and gets something for nothing, they are jealous and distressed, and their tea and rice are tasteless, and they live like years and fall into great mental torture. He thought about it day and night, managed to spit out the evil spirit, and finally had a new idea and called out his spirit. "I order you to cut out one of my eyes." In a flash, he became Cyclops and lost a bright eye. The servant came to report that the owner of the neighbor's house suddenly went blind. He was very happy when he heard this, and ordered his elf to take one of his arms and another of his legs. The servant sent to inquire about the news came back and reported that the neighbor's master had lost his arms and legs, and his life was dying and he could not move. The young man is satisfied now. He has harmed others and himself.
There's an Indian proverb: Envy hurts others as well as yourself.
