1. Light and Shadow The role of light in photography is unquestionable. The most important thing is to use bright light to shoot, so that the color of the food can be bright and the food can be photographed deliciously.
When I shoot food, I usually shoot under natural light. I place the food near the window sill or in a brighter place on the balcony to shoot. I usually use backlighting or side backlighting, but the light should not be too strong. It is best to have a layer of light.
A thin window screen blocks the light and softens the light.
If the room is dark or you are shooting at night, do not use flash, you need lighting. Food photography does not have high lighting requirements. Find two desk lamps, place the food in the middle, and place the lights separately on the left and right, one at a time, and then at the main light source.
Just place a white reflective board on the opposite side. The reflective board can be pasted with cardboard and tin foil for baking.
I think it’s better not to shoot at night if you don’t have professional photography equipment.
22. Composition. Place the food on the table and look for the camera angle - which is commonly known as composition.
Composition is an important factor in photography. Generally speaking, the principles of "less is more" and "one-third" are followed. Beginners are most suitable to use the "less is more" principle and use a simple and single layout.
To express, the layout should not be too messy.
In terms of composition arrangement, the rule of thirds is a very useful golden composition method. The subject usually does not need to be placed in the center.
Unless you are paranoid and have to put the food in the middle, then you might as well try different ways of composition.
13. Tableware, tablecloth and background. The performance of the entire picture depends not only on the performance of the dish, but also on the combination of tableware, tablecloth and background. Do not underestimate the combination of tableware and tablecloth. For food photography, collect
All kinds of tableware, tableware, tablecloths, etc. have become a big hobby of mine. When I go out, others like to look at the clothes, but I like to look at the tableware.
Usually, you should pay attention to collecting some beautiful tableware and props.
Then when shooting, notice the harmonious combination of food, tableware, and background.
14. Shooting angle: Food photography generally uses aperture priority and large aperture.
This is because the larger the aperture of the photographic lens, the smaller the depth of field. With the subject as the focus point, the scenery farther than the subject will be blurred.
The shooting angles are divided into 0, 45, and 90. I generally like to use the 45-degree Korean method, but this is not a general rule. For Western food, snacks, snacks, drinks, etc., it is more suitable to shoot at a relatively flat angle such as 0 angle, because if it is for
Highlight its three-dimensionality.
Some larger tableware and food can be photographed at a relatively vertical angle of about 90 degrees.
15. Most of the films produced by SLR cameras in the later period are larger in gray scale and slightly smaller in contrast.
Therefore, in the later stage, you need to use photo editing software. The specific post-processing of photos involves the software PhotoShop. This software is a very powerful and rich graphics processing software, but we only need to learn some basic processing methods.
To take good food photos, I usually do some simple processing: curves, brightness/contrast, levels, and sharpening.
