Because of a movie, I set foot on the end of the earth-Cornwall, England.
The British film Ladies in Lavender (translated in Chinese as Girls Waiting for Love) takes place in a coastal town in Cornwall, southwest England. Set in 1931, an elderly pair of sisters are enjoying their isolated rural life. Until one day after the storm, the sisters rescued a young Polish man washed ashore by the waves, which broke their quiet life.
In the movie, the soothing and beautiful mood, the gentle violin melody, and the two old ladies weave a feeling that makes their hearts beat. The winding and spectacular coast, secluded coves, soft beaches and vast moors in Cornwall, where the film is set, are unforgettable, no matter the tension under the storm and lightning or the tranquility under the blue sky and white clouds.
I can't tell whether the background sets off the story or the touching story makes the background more beautiful. I don't know whether the beauty of Cornwall attracted me or the wonderful story moved me. I only know that I went online to find information about Cornwall immediately after watching the movie and set a travel date.
Take the wrong bus
There is another episode in this trip.
Cornwall is located in the southwest of England. From the map of England, it is the peninsula protruding from the southwest end, including several small outlying islands. Its beautiful and winding coastline has created rich tourism resources, as well as ancient monasteries built on the island, amphitheaters on the cliffs and quaint small fishing villages. It is the source of passion and inspiration for artists and poets.
It's a long journey from the city in the north of England to Cornwall, and you need to transfer to two trains. After arriving in Cornwall, take intercity buses to various towns and scenic spots. Cornwall is relatively large, relatively remote and has a small population, so intercity transportation is relatively inconvenient. In the off-season of tourism, there are only 2-3 intercity buses from one town to another.
originally, I changed trains in Bristol to Plymouth, but I originally planned to go around downtown Bristol because of the long waiting time. The transfer station is in the suburbs, and I need to take another stop to the city center. As soon as I was in a hurry, I jumped on the train without looking at where the coming train was going.
I thought it would take me a few minutes to get to the station in the city center, but the train has been going for about ten minutes without stopping, and it is going to the suburbs. Then the train crossed a sea-crossing bridge, and then I began to be anxious and realized that I had got on the wrong train.
At this time, there was a broadcast sound that didn't sound like an Englishman's accent, but it was very similar to the accent of continental European countries. I thought it wouldn't be a cross-sea trip to continental Europe, but it wasn't the boarding point of Eurostar (the train that passes through continental Europe). Just then, I arrived at the station and saw that there was another language under the English sign in the station. It suddenly dawned on me that I had arrived in Wales, which was far from Bristol.
I quickly looked for the name of the station and found it was Newport, Wales. I quickly opened the map to find out where Newport was. It turns out that Newport is located in Wales, north of Cornwall, near Cardiff, the capital of Wales.
When you arrive, you will take a wrong turn around the railway station, then go back to the station and take the train back to Bristol and transfer to Plymouth.
since I didn't buy a ticket, when the flight attendant checked the ticket, I boldly and politely explained to him that I had taken the wrong bus and now I had to take it back, and showed him the ticket from Bristol to Plymouth. He said OK and didn't ask me to pay any more.
St. Ives
I came to St. Ives from Plymouth the next day. On the train, I have been deeply attracted by its bay, winding coast, white beach and blue sea, and this kind of blue has an indescribable feeling of being relaxed and happy.
from the crystal clear light blue, slowly to the deep blue and purple blue, until the sky meets the sky, and then back to the sky blue and white clouds, such a beautiful painting, coupled with the sound of waves beating against rocks, makes a beautiful natural song. No wonder so many artists and poets come here looking for passion and inspiration.
This is a seaside town with a great atmosphere. The railway station is at the foot of the mountain, and the town is on the hillside. The house is built along the edge of the small slope, and you can walk up the small slope to the roof of the house, which is decorated as a garden. These houses are hotels, and tourists are sitting in the roof garden to bask in the sun and enjoy the sea view.
the hillside offers a panoramic view of the town. This is a mountain city, built from the foot of the seaside to the top of the mountain. It is an ancient town with European characteristics. Many steep alleys can be seen everywhere with galleries, handicrafts and jewelry shops, and most of them are hand-made by designers. The paintings are mainly based on nature, and the sea, rocks, flowers and grass are made from local materials, which has local characteristics, so it can be seen that this is a beautiful place where any corner can be painted.
on the bay in the center of the town, a small fishing boat ran aground on the beach, and the beach on the shore was full of tourists, enjoying the delicious food Cornwall pasty and Cream Tea here in the sun.
Passing through another bay in the center of the town, passing through the rocks is a snow-white beach, and the sand is fine and soft. One side of the bay is green grass, and the other side is rocks and blue ocean. The waves keep kissing the rocks, and it seems that they will never be willing to leave. This remind me of that scene in the movie.
tourists pass by the rock path in twos and threes. I sat on the rock with my eyes closed, enjoying the kiss of the sea breeze, breathing the fresh air deeply and feeling the taste of the sea.
turn another corner and come to another big beach. The waves here are quite big and there are many surfers. Surfers are free to ride the surging waves, just as the sea is their best friend. They are playing with the sea.
Zennor Village
get out of St. Ives, get on the minibus and drive in the direction of Zennor. Zennor is a remote village. I stayed here for one night so that I could take a bus to the end of the earth the next day.
It felt a little deserted all the way. I was the only passenger on the bus, but I was on high alert despite the beautiful scenery outside the window. The driver talked to me all the way and was very friendly.
The car stopped at the entrance of a small village with only a dozen houses, and the driver told me that it had arrived. I was a little skeptical at first, but on second thought, isn't this the different Britain I want to experience?
When I was in the car, I could see the sea behind the village, so I put down my luggage at the hotel and went to the seaside. After a bush to the coast, there is a path to a rock near the sea, surrounded by green trees and some subtropical broad-leaved plants, which has a kind of intimacy. This is the southwestern tip of Britain, and there is something different from other parts of Britain that excites me.
When I came to the rock, there was silence around me. Looking at the distant sea, I took out my paper and pen and left this most beautiful moment (because my camera fell into the water in St Ives, I couldn't turn it on).
Lands End)
Lands End is the end of Britain's land and the "ends of the earth" of Britain.
At the end of the earth, there is a sign, which says the distance from here to all parts of the world, such as new york ... Opposite here is the invisible European continent. Imagine how much the British wanted to be connected with the mainland.
There are all kinds of rocks here, such as the "Elephant Trunk Mountain" in Guilin and the English version of Wangfu Stone. Seabirds inhabit the rocks and become beautiful decorations. The winding coast with no end in sight is spectacular, the sea breeze is rustling, but the sun is caressing warmly. Walking slowly here may be the best way to feel the end of the earth.
