The Roman Forum is the only square in the modern city of Frankfurt that still retains the appearance of a medieval street. Next to the Roman Forum is the Roman Hall, which is actually the old city hall. Its stepped gabled roof is unique. Characteristic. The Emperor's Palace (Kaisersaal) inside was the place where many Roman emperors were crowned. The three gabled buildings on the west side of the Roman Forum can be said to be the symbol of Frankfurt. In 1944, the square was severely bombed by the British Air Force and was basically destroyed. It was rebuilt after the war. In addition to Paris Platz in Berlin, Rathausplatz in Hamburg, and Marienplatz in Munich, this is the most important city square in Germany.
During the Middle Ages, the Roman Forum was the central square of Frankfurt. Markets and trade fairs were held here, as well as political rallies and

court trials. The place was probably named by Italian merchants who dominated the local business community at the time. During World War II, the truss buildings surrounding this pentagonal square were completely destroyed. Shortly after World War II, the square was rebuilt, and the row of buildings on the east side of the square, namely Grosser Engel, Goldener Greif, Wilder Mann, and Kleiner Dachsberg (Kleiner Dachsberg) and Grosser Laubenberg (Grosser Laubenberg) were not rebuilt until 1980-1986, and they were rebuilt in the highly decorative Zurich style. It was not long before people discovered the shortcomings of the buildings: within just a few years, the buildings had developed large cracks and needed to be repaired. The Fountain of Justice built in the sixteenth century in the center of the square reminds people of medieval court trials.
In the middle of the square stands the Fountain of the Lady of Justice facing the old city hall. The goddess holds a scale symbolizing justice. The statue is from 1611 Erected, it was originally made of sandstone

. It was replaced by a bronze statue in 1887. The fountain below once sprayed red and white wine for citizens to share during the coronation ceremony. .
On the east side of the square, there is a row of antique half-timbered residential houses. There are also the Imperial Cathedral (Kaiserdom), the Roman Hall (Romer), and the Old Church of St. Nicholas (Nicolai Kirche), etc. The Imperial Cathedral was built in 1239 and has a gorgeous Gothic appearance. Not only is it the spiritual center of Frankfurt, it was also the place where German kings were crowned. Between 1562 and 1797, 10 emperors in China held coronation ceremonies here.
Frankfurt’s Old City Hall consists of three exquisite buildings with gabled roofs. The middle one is called Rema. There is an Emperor's Hall on the second floor of the Rhema, where the coronation ceremony of the Holy Roman Emperor was held. The hall is open for viewing when there are no special celebrations. There are portraits of 52 emperors of the Holy Roman Empire hanging in the hall. These portraits are life-size and very eye-catching. On the side opposite to Reima, there is a row of beautiful wooden buildings

which were later rebuilt. It is said that before World War II, there were many such beautiful buildings in Frankfurt. Today's Frankfurt is full of modern atmosphere, but people hope that at least in the center of the old district, the area around Remarplatz can still retain some of its past style, so after World War II, those beautiful old buildings were rebuilt and preserved. Among them are the Cathedral, which held the election and coronation ceremony of the Holy Roman Emperor, as well as the Old City Hall, Nicholas Church, and the Statue of Justice Fountain. In summer, it becomes the festival square of "Summer on the Maine River"; in winter, four weeks before Christmas, a Christmas shopping market is held here. [1]
