Changshu People's Hospital was established on September 1, 1949. It is located on Hanbeimen Street (the former site of the county public hospital), with 26 employees and 30 beds. In April 1953, it was renamed Changshu People's Hospital and moved to Wengjia Garden.

, with 110 employees and 100 beds; it is divided into departments of pediatrics, gynecology, pulmonology, facial features, and radiology.

In July 1987, it was renamed Changshu First People's Hospital, with 449 employees and 365 beds. According to the requirements of a comprehensive hospital, clinical, medical technology, and administrative functional departments were set up.
