Pei, an 85-year-old world-famous architect, accepted the kind invitation of the Municipal Party Committee and the Municipal Government and personally designed the new Suzhou Museum, and formally signed the design agreement on April 30, 2002.

Extended data

The new museum is divided into three roads: East, West and Middle. The three-dimensional building in the middle road is in the form of a palace, and the beam square is decorated with Soviet-style painting. The side door at the entrance has wisteria planted in Wen Zhiming, and the classical stage of the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom is on the east side. It is a national key cultural relics protection unit.

The design of the new museum combines the traditional architectural style of Suzhou, placing the museum between courtyards to make the building in harmony with its surrounding environment. The main courtyard of the museum is an extension of the architectural style of the Humble Administrator's Garden in the north and a modern interpretation.
