According to the preliminary results of the 2021 census of the Croatian National Bureau of Statistics, the total population of Croatia is 3,888,529.
Compared with 4,284,889 people in 2011, there was a decrease of 9.25%, and 396,360 people were lost in 10 years.
The population of Croatia has been declining since reaching a peak of 4,784,265 people in 1991.
The population has dropped by 895,736 since 1991, more than the entire population of Zagreb.
The population fell in all provinces, with the smallest decline occurring in Zagreb, followed by Dubrovnik-Neretva and Zadar.
The largest decrease was in the Vukovar-Sriyam province, where the population dropped by more than 19%; followed by the Sisak-Moslavina and Brod-Posavina provinces, with a decrease of 17.53%.
Compared with 2011, the number of Croatian households dropped by more than 5%.
Urban population in Croatia: There are currently only three cities with a population of more than 100,000, namely Zagreb, Split and Rijeka.
The population of the latter two also dropped by 14.6% and 13.7% respectively in the past 10 years.
