In 1993, Helen was named "China Folk Art-Hometown of Paper-cutting" by the Ministry of Culture. Helen City, located at the foot of Xiaoxing 'an Mountains, was originally the hunting ground of the emperor in the early Qing Dynasty. With the development of history, the settlers of the Han, Mongolian, Hui and Korean nationalities gathered here. They brought rich and colorful arts and crafts such as paper-cutting and embroidery in the north of China, and learned from each other with Manchu and Oroqen people's techniques such as playing clouds and printing twists, and gradually formed the art of paper-cutting.
Before and after Helen's establishment in p>1899, the art of paper-cutting was widely spread among the people, mainly using lamps to smoke and scissors to cut, all of which were simple patterns of flowers, birds, animals and figures to make hanging money, window grilles and so on. By the intersection of local ethnic minorities and Han immigrants, a rough and bold northern paper-cutting art style was initially formed. Flowers, plants, insects, fish, birds and animals, etc., are simple and refined in shape, rough and powerful in blade, and have the characteristics of freehand brushwork. After the founding of New China, the theme of Helen's paper-cutting has made new development. In particular, Ode to the Ancestor, written on the eve of anniversary in the 1th year after the founding of the People's Republic of China, broke through the monotonous content of paper-cutting, expanded the theme, increased the level of expression, and issued decorations, vividly reflecting the deep feelings of people of all ethnic groups in China who love the great leader Chairman Mao, the Party and the motherland. This work has been published in People's Daily, People's Pictorial and Ethnic Pictorial, and has been exhibited in China Modern Art Exhibition and International Expo, and has also been exhibited in countries such as the Soviet Union, Japan, France and New Zealand for many times. This treasure is now in the Heilongjiang Museum.
from 195s to 196s, Helen's paper-cutting had a certain influence throughout the country. Fu Zuoren's paper-cut works, as the representative, have been published in provincial and national newspapers for many times, exhibited and won prizes at national and provincial level. Among them, the paper-cut works decorated the conference hall of the Great Hall of the People and were given to the North Sea Fleet and Daqing Iron Man Wang Jinxi by Premier Zhou Enlai. During the Cultural Revolution, Helen's paper-cut works were in a state of stagnation. After 198s, Helen's paper-cutting has made great progress and formed a unique paper-cutting artistic style. Diversification is reflected in the creative content of paper-cutting.
