On Jung's Philosophy

Your subconscious is controlling your life,

You call it fate.

When the subconscious appears,

Raise to the level of consciousness,

Fate has been rewritten.

In the eyes of ordinary people, the meaning of the word "subconscious" is a metaphysical and extremely mysterious thing. The reason why the concept of subconsciousness is covered by this feature lies in one reason: in the speech of ordinary people, the word subconsciousness has become a metaphysical entity.

For example, Edward von Hartmann called the subconscious mind "the realm of the universe". In addition, this word is also used by mystics, because mystics are extremely keen to borrow scientific words and use the cloak of "science" to whitewash their guesses.

On the contrary, for a long time, experimental psychologists who think they represent the only real scientific psychology have taken a negative attitude towards the concept of subconscious, on the grounds that everything in psychology is conscious, and consciousness is enough to bear the name "psychology". Experimental psychologists also admit that the content of conscious psychology is different in terms of clarity. Some psychology is "brighter" than others, while others are "darker", but the existence of subconscious mind is denied by them because of nominal opposition.

The reason why experimental psychologists hold this view is that the work in the laboratory is always limited to "normal" things and the nature of the experiment itself. So far, people can only experiment on the most superficial psychological process. In essence, complex psychological functions will never enter the experimental process based on accurate measurement, so the exploration of them is completely lacking. However, in terms of importance, there is another factor that far exceeds the above reasons, and that is the isolation between experimental psychology and psychopathology.

French psychologists have been paying attention to abnormal psychological phenomena since the period of Libot. Binet.Alfred. Alfred, one of the most outstanding representatives, even claimed that morbid psychology would amplify some abnormal behaviors and make them elusive; And if these behaviors are taken out separately, it will be easy to understand. There is also a French psychologist named Pierre Janet. He worked in Sa Pettre, devoted his life to the study of psychopathological process, and made great achievements. However, it is the abnormal psychological process that can clearly explain the existence of the subconscious mind. It is for this reason that medical staff, especially doctors in the field of mental illness, support the subconscious hypothesis and defend it fiercely.

In France, the discovery of psychopathology greatly enriched psychology and made it accept the view that there is a "subconscious" process. On the contrary, in Germany, psychology enriched psychopathology and provided it with many useful experimental methods, but psychology did not learn from psychopathology to pay attention to pathological phenomena. To a great extent, this explains why the research on psychopathology in German scientific field has embarked on a different development path from that in France. In addition to attracting attention in academic circles, the study of psychopathology has also become the research object of medical figures. Their professional work forces them to understand the complex psychological phenomena displayed by patients. In this way, various theoretical viewpoints and practical techniques, the so-called "psychoanalysis", appeared later.

The concept of subconsciousness has been greatly developed in this psychoanalytic movement, even surpassing the French school, because the latter pays more attention to the various forms of self-expression in the process of subconsciousness, rather than its inducement and special connotation. 15 years ago, without the participation of Freudian school, I confirmed the existence and importance of subconscious processes through my own experimental research, and explained the methods that might show these processes. Later, through cooperation with some students, I also made clear the significance of subconscious process to mental patients.

These developments were originally purely in the medical field, so the concept of subconscious has a color rooted in natural science. In Freudian school, this concept has always been a pure medical concept. According to this school, as a civilized creature, human beings can't show many instinctive impulses and desires because these things are not allowed in law and morality. Therefore, as long as a person is willing to adapt to society, he will force himself to suppress these wishes. It is perfectly reasonable to assume that people have all kinds of wishes. At any time, as long as you are a little honest, this can be confirmed by everyone. However, on the whole, this understanding can only confirm a general judgment: that is, there is a desire that is not tolerated and allowed by society.

Nevertheless, experience shows that in individual cases, the situation is quite different. It is also very clear that because people will suppress those wishes that are not allowed to happen, it will lead to the collapse of the thin wall between the generation of wishes and the realization of wishes, thus making wishes subconscious. Desire will be forgotten, or-if this person is looking for any motive-its position will be replaced by a roughly reasonable reason.

An impermissible wish becomes subconscious, and this process is called repression. It is different from repression, and the premise of repression is that this desire will always exist in people's consciousness. Whether it is composed of wishes or painful memories, these incompatible contents still exist, although they will be suppressed and forgotten, and their undiscovered existence will affect the process of consciousness. This effect will be manifested as a strange interference with consciousness and normal function. We call it neurological disorder or psychological disorder.

In particular, these disturbances will not only affect the psychological process, but also extend to the physiological process. As Jenny emphasized, when they act on physiological processes, the basic components of physiological functions are never disturbed, but they just use these functions spontaneously in various complicated situations. For example, the basic component of nutritional function lies in swallowing.

If people often suffocate when eating solid food or liquid food, it is an anatomical or organ disease. However, if you suffocate only when eating certain foods or in certain dining places, when someone is present or in a certain mood, then this is a neurological or psychological disorder. Therefore, psychogenic disorder will only affect eating behavior under certain psychological conditions, but not under physical conditions.

This kind of physiological dysfunction is especially common in hysteria. There is also a common disease that French doctors call neurasthenia. In this kind of patients, pure psychological barriers have replaced the physical dysfunction. This obstacle is manifested in many aspects, such as obsessive-compulsive thinking, anxiety, depression, mood, fantasy, morbid mood and impulse. We find that the root of these obstacles is the repressed psychological content, that is, the content that has become subconscious. On the basis of these pure experimental findings, the concept gradually formed: that is, the subconscious is the sum of all desires that are not allowed to be tolerated and suppressed by society.

..... Not only that, I also said that sex is everyone's basic instinct, which is enough to explain the famous Freud theory. Freud's theory attributes everything to sex, and its description of the subconscious makes it look like some kind of storage room, where all the repressed and impermissible primitive desires and the ensuing impermissible sexual desires are stored.

Although this view is unpleasant, Freud brought many things into the concept of sex. If we want to dig out all these things, we must treat this view fairly. In this way, we will find that Freud greatly expanded the boundary of this concept, making it far beyond the allowable boundary. What Freud actually means is "sex" in a better word.

In ancient philosophy, sex represents God's love, which can penetrate everything and is the power of creation and reproduction. "Sex" is the most indecent expression of this power. Nevertheless, since the concept of sex has come into being, it seems to have a clear boundary, so people don't even want to regard "love" as a synonym. However, in Freud's articles, we can easily see that when he only talks about sex, he often mentions "love".

..... If we abandon the theory that the subconscious mind is completely indiscriminately interpreted as sex and replace it with the concept of psychological energy, we must say that the subconscious mind includes all psychological conditions that have not yet reached the threshold of consciousness, those that are not enough to keep it in consciousness, or those that can only reach consciousness in the future. So we can describe to ourselves how the subconscious should be constituted. We have taken the cognition of depression as the subconscious content, and we must also add everything we have forgotten.

Just because something is forgotten doesn't mean it's gone; It's just that this memory has become subconscious. Its energy charge is too low to appear in consciousness. However, although it disappeared in the consciousness, it did not disappear in the subconscious. If this is just an expression, it will naturally be opposed. I want to use a hypothetical example to illustrate what I mean. Suppose there are two people, one has never read a book and the other has read 1000 books. 10 year, the first person was only alive, and the second person read 1000 books. We erased the memory of these two people 10 years. Now they are both equally ignorant, but each of us can still tell which of them has read the book, and pay attention to them and read them. Although the experience of reading has been forgotten for a long time, it still leaves traces. We can find past experiences from these traces. This indirect but lasting influence stems from the fixed impression. Although these impressions can never reach people's consciousness, they are still preserved.

In addition to forgotten things, subconscious perception also constitutes a part of the subconscious. They may be sensory perception that has not reached the threshold of conscious auditory stimulation, or sensory perception in secondary vision; It may also be apperception, that is, the consciousness of inner spirit or external process.

All these materials constitute the individual's subconscious. It is called an individual because it comes entirely from personal life. Therefore, once anything becomes subconscious, it will be absorbed by the associative network composed of these subconscious materials. If high-density association is transformed into consciousness, it can be reproduced in the form of inspiration, intuition and "good idea".

However, the concept of personal subconscious still can't let us fully grasp the essence of the subconscious. If the subconscious is only personal, then theoretically, all the fantasies of a mentally disordered person can be traced back to personal experiences and impressions. Undoubtedly, a large part of these fantasy materials can be simply attributed to their personal history, but there are still some fantasies that prevent people from finding their roots in their past history. What kind of fantasies are those? In a word, they are myths and fantasies. Their content has nothing to do with any event or experience, but only with fairy tales.

If these myths and fantasies don't come from personal subconscious, then they don't come from personal life experiences, so where do they come from? There is no doubt that they come from the brain. Indeed, they come from the brain, but not from individual memory traces, but from the genetic brain structure itself. These fantasies are always original and very creative, just like new inventions.

Obviously, these fantasies come from the creative activities of the brain, not just its memory activities. In addition to the body, we also get a highly different brain, which carries all its history. When the brain creates, it creates from this period of history-human history.

For the word "history", we usually refer to the history we "created", which we call "objective history". The real creative fantasy activity of the brain has nothing to do with this history, but only with ancient natural history. This kind of history has been handed down in the form of life since HarmonyOS system, that is, the history of brain structure. This structure will tell its own story, that is, the story of mankind: the myth of endless death and rebirth, and the story of people who travel like stars in this unsolved mystery.

This kind of subconscious is deeply buried in the structure of the brain, and its immortal existence will only be revealed through the media of creative fantasy, which is the super-individual subconscious. It is revived in creative people, manifested in the imagination of artists, the inspiration of thinkers and the inner experience of divers. The transpersonal subconscious spreads through the brain structure, just like a profound, omnipresent and omniscient spirit. Its understanding of people is not limited to this moment, it also understands people's past; It knows the mythical people. Because of this, the connection with superego consciousness or collective subconscious means the extension of human self; It means the death of individual existence and rebirth in another new space. ……

..... In fact, too detailed or absurd explanations in the past can't make us understand our subconscious. ……

I think we should really take the subconscious seriously. Christianity has a strong impulse to do good and great moral power. This is not only an argument in favor of Christianity, but also confirms the strength of the suppressed and suppressed opponents of Christianity and the barbaric factors against Christianity. Something in our hearts will resist us, which may become a serious problem for us. I think this is not only a dangerous trait, but also a valuable property. This is still an untouched treasure, an uncorrupted treasure, a symbol of youth and rebirth passion.

However, if we regard the subconscious as the source of enlightenment just because we see its positive characteristics, then it is fundamentally wrong. Fundamentally speaking, the subconscious is the world of the past, which is stimulated by the one-sidedness of consciousness and attitude. Some factors have little influence on the existence of individual consciousness. Once life develops unilaterally in a certain direction, the self-regulation function of living things will accumulate these factors in the subconscious. Therefore, as a supplement to the theory of repression, I put forward the theory of subconscious compensation.

The function of subconscious is to supplement the content of immediate consciousness. The meaning of this sentence is not to say that the subconscious will launch resistance, because sometimes the tendency of the subconscious coincides with the tendency of the consciousness, that is, the attitude of the consciousness will approach the best result. The closer the attitude of consciousness is to the best result, the weaker the independent activity of the subconscious will be and the lower its value will be. At the moment when the best result is achieved, its value will drop to zero.

Therefore, we can say that as long as everything goes well, as long as a person's path is the best result for himself and society, the subconscious mind can't talk about it. In our time, we will explore the subconscious, which is enough to prove that everything is out of order now. The discussion about the subconscious mind cannot be completely pushed to analytical psychologists. This discussion began as early as the French Revolution, and the earliest signs can be seen in Max Mai's works.

Indeed, at that time, people did not say subconscious, but "animal magnetism." This is only a rediscovery of the original concepts of soul power and soul matter, which were revived from the subconscious due to the restoration of ancient thought forms. The theory of animal magnetism swept the whole western world like a whirlwind, which eventually led people to accept fetishism again (giving life to inanimate objects).

..... At that time, as now, everything was in a disorderly state, and the subconscious broke free from the cage and brought back what was buried in ancient times. The era we live in now inevitably reminds us of that period. If there is any difference between these two eras, it may be that the degree of psychological confusion at that time was not as obvious as it is now.
