How to identify the age of ginseng

Look at the growth rings: The identification of the year can be judged by observing the growth rings. The growth rings cannot be seen in ginseng under 4 years old, and the growth rings will only appear after more than four years. Look at the reed bowl: Ginseng naturally grows and sheds its leaves and stems once a year. Every time the ginseng falls off, there will be a scar on the reed head. Pay attention to artificial leave: if you put the reed heads in water, they will deform when exposed to water.

Growth environment of ginseng:

1. Soil: Ginseng likes sandy loam with loose texture, good ventilation, good drainage and fertile nutrients. It is best to have phosphorus and potassium fertilizers in the soil. And humus is sufficient, usually humus-rich forest soil, granite differentiated soil and mountain yellow sand soil are better. The pH value of soil is generally 5.5~6.5. Alkaline soil, clay loess and gray soaked soil with a pH value greater than 7 are not suitable for growth.

2. Moisture: The soil moisture content is generally maintained at 40~50%. During the ginseng emergence period in spring, the soil moisture content is about 40%; in summer, when the temperature rises, the moisture content is about 45~50%; in autumn and during the growth and development period throughout the year, the moisture content should be 45~50%.

3. Light: Ginseng is a shade-loving plant, and a cool and humid climate is beneficial to its growth. Resistant to low temperatures, avoid direct exposure to strong light, and prefer scattered weak light.

4. Temperature: When the temperature is less than 10℃ or the temperature is greater than 30℃, ginseng will enter a dormant state. Ginseng is afraid of high temperatures and can withstand severe cold weather. It can safely survive the winter even at temperatures as low as -30°C. During the growth period, the optimal average temperature range is 15~25℃. When the temperature is lower than -6℃, ginseng stems stop growing. After sowing ginseng, the temperature during the emergence period is required to be greater than 10°C; the temperature for 1 to 2-year-old ginseng to emerge is greater than 12°C.
