1, Hayward

It is a wild delicious kiwifruit introduced by New Zealanders from Yichang, Hubei Province, China, in 1904, and bred into varieties through live selection. Hayward was introduced into domestic cultivation in 1980, and has now become the main cultivar with a large commercial cultivation area in China.

Shape: Hayward's fruit is oval, with a large single fruit weighing 165g, and an average single fruit weight of 80-110g; the fruit is round or oval in cross-section, and has a beautiful and upright shape, with rounded shoulders, flat beak, greenish-brown pericarp densely covered with brown hard hairs that are difficult to fall off, and green flesh.

2, Xu Xiang

The original code name of Xu Xiang was Xuzhou 75-4, which was selected from the delicious kiwifruit seedlings introduced from Beijing Botanical Garden of the Chinese Academy of Sciences in 1975, and then asexual propagation was carried out in 1985 to expand the experiment, and it passed the provincial appraisal in November, 1990.

Shape: Xu Xiang's fruit is cylindrical, neatly shaped, with an average longitudinal diameter of 5.8cm, a transverse diameter of 5.1cm, and a lateral diameter of 4.8cm, an average fruit weight of 75-100g, and a large fruit weight of 137g. The pericarp is yellowish-green, with yellowish-brown velvet hairs, a flush peduncle pit and a slightly protruding apex, and the thin skin of the pericarp is easy to be peeled off. The flesh is green, juicy and tender.

3, Cuiju

Cuiju kiwifruit is a new variety selected by Hunan Horticultural Research Institute and Longzhuangwan Township, Xupu County, Hunan Province, which was appraised by the provincial experts in September, 2001, and the fruit quality is excellent, with large fruit shape, rich and delicious flavor, extremely storage-resistant fruits, abundant and stable yield, and it is an early and medium-maturing variety with excellent comprehensive traits.

The variety of fruit garden cone-shaped, fruit protrusion, greenish-brown pericarp, smooth and hairless fruit surface, the average single-fruit weight of 85-95 grams, the largest single-fruit weight of 129-242 grams. The flesh is green or bright green, dense, tender, juicy, with a strong sweet flavor and soluble solids content of 17.3-19.5%.

4. Hongyang

Hongyang, formerly known as Cangqi 1-3, Longgang Hong, Longshan Hong, is an excellent variety selected by Sichuan Natural Resources Research Institute and Cangxi County Agricultural Bureau from the offspring of natural live birth groups.

Shape: Hongyang is diploid, the fruit is long cylindrical and obovate, moderately small, longitudinal diameter of 4.2cm, transverse diameter of 4.0cm, the average weight of a single fruit is 68.8-92.5g, the beak is concave at the end of the fruit, the pericarp is green or greenish-brown, the velvet hairs are soft and easy to fall off, the skin is thin.

The flesh of the fruit is yellowish-green, the heart is white, the ovary is bright red, with radiating red stripes along the heart, and the cross-section of the fruit shows a pattern of red, yellow, and green, which has a special value of stimulating appetite and accompanying meals.

5. Longzanghong

Longzanghong kiwifruit is a new variety of kiwifruit selected and bred from the wild resources of kiwifruit planting bases in Xiaoshajiang Town, Longhui County, Hunan Province, which is a red-fleshed variant of Chinese kiwifruit and a red-centered variant of extra-early-maturing red heart variety with excellent comprehensive traits.

Through the appraisal of many generations and the multi-point planting test of the Provincial Academy of Agricultural Sciences, the offspring of kiwifruit have stable hereditary traits, strong resistance, large fruits, good flavor and good stability. Strong, larger fruits, flavor sweet and delicious, more resistant to storage, stable yield, high value of fresh food processing, unique in the country's characteristic varieties.
