According to folklore, the reason why the birth rate of Mojiang twins is the highest in the world is closely related to the local people's long-term consumption of this kind of purple rice growing in the Tropic of Cancer (Yin and Yang Line).
Mojiang purple rice, named after its purple color, is known as the best rice, "longevity rice", "medicinal rice", "world rice king", "moon rice" and "blood-enriching rice", belonging to glutinous rice, commonly known as purple pearl.
It is called Yutian rouge rice in A Dream of Red Mansions.
Mojiang purple rice is big and full, with strong viscosity. After steaming, it can make the broken rice resume and has the effect of bone-setting. Compendium of Materia Medica states that purple rice has the functions of nourishing yin and tonifying kidney, strengthening spleen and warming liver, improving eyesight and promoting blood circulation, enriching blood and benefiting qi, closing uterus and nourishing yin, and treating neurasthenia.
Since Emperor Wu of the Han Dynasty, emperors of all dynasties have listed purple rice as a tribute, which has become a delicacy for the royal family. It is also one of the gifts selected by modern national leaders when they visit abroad.

Due to the special geographical location, temperature difference and planting conditions, Mojiang purple rice is harvested once a year. Relatively speaking, this is also one of the important factors of low yield and high price of Mojiang purple rice.
The cultivation of Mojiang purple rice is divided into three steps:
(1) sowing seeds: (sowing seedlings, cultivating seedlings) This season is around February-March every year;
(2) Transplanting: that is, it is often said that in transplanting season, purple rice seedlings will thrive only when there is abundant rain, which is generally between April and May every year;
