Long spindle shape, soft, smooth and without shell, body surface is dark black, dark gray, yellow-white or gray-red. There are 2 pairs of tentacles, dark black. The lower pair is shorter, about 1 mm, and is called the front tentacles, which has a sensory function; the upper pair is about 4 mm long, called the rear tentacles, and has eyes at the end.
There are horny radula in the mouth. Slugs overwinter as adults or larvae in moist soil at the roots of crops. There is a lot of activity in the fields from May to July, causing damage. When the temperature rises in summer, the activity weakens. In autumn, when the climate cools down, the activity starts again and causes damage. Wild slugs are afraid of light and will die in 2-3 hours under strong light, so they are active at night.
Slug life habits:
Dark and humid environments are easy for slugs to grow. When the temperature is 11.5-18.5℃ and the soil moisture content is 20-30%, it is most beneficial to its growth and development. . Slugs are afraid of light and will die within 2-3 hours of being exposed to strong light. Therefore, they are active at night, starting in the evening and reaching their peak at 10-11 pm. They continue to sneak into the soil or hidden places before early morning. When found, strong light or desiccant needs to be used for timely treatment.
