(a) Temperature
Gourd likes warmth and does not tolerate low temperatures. Seeds begin to germinate at 15 ℃, the appropriate temperature 30 ~ 35 ℃. 20 ~ 25 ℃ temperature for the growth and fruiting of the most suitable, 15 ℃ below the slow growth, 10 ℃ below the stop growth, 5 ℃ below the beginning of the cold damage. Gourd can adapt to higher temperatures, in the high temperature of about 35 ℃ can still be normal growth, can also sit fruit, fruit development is good. However, the response to temperature during the period of nutritive growth varies depending on the type of variety. Round gourd is more resistant to high temperatures than long gourd, and long gourd types in order to long cylindrical gourd varieties than short cylindrical low-temperature resistance. Specific performance in the low temperature germination faster, neat; root growth faster, more roots; plant height, stem thickness, fresh weight, dry weight by low temperature is less affected (Shao Meihong et al., 2001).
(ii) Light
Gourd is a short-day crop, and short days in the seedling period can make the main vine early female flowers. Gourd has high light requirements, in sunny conditions, less disease, good growth and results, and high yield; if rainy, rainy, insufficient light is serious anthracnose, and easy to melt melons, rotten melons, fruit development is also delayed.
(c) water
gourd like water, like fertilizer, especially the growth of the early especially like a moist environment, but in the flowering and fruiting of the water should not be too much, or easy to rot melon, so the rainy season to pay attention to drainage.
(d) Soil and nutrition
General long gourd intolerant of barren, humus-rich, fertilizer and water retention strong loam cultivation is appropriate. Round gourd on the soil conditions are not strict, but because it is a long growing period, larger fruit, high yield, so the growth period still need a certain amount of nitrogen fertilizer, melon period to have sufficient phosphorus and potassium fertilizer.
