The planned total area of Liuye Lake in Changde is 44.96 square kilometers, of which the water area is 2 1.8 square kilometers, which is about three times that of Hangzhou West Lake, and its scale is unique in China.

Liuye Lake in Changde, namely Liuye Lake Tourist Resort, is located in the urban-rural fringe in the northeast of Changde City, Hunan Province, with Sun Mountain in the south, Shui Yuan in the south and Dongting Lake in the south. It is named Liuye Lake because the whole lake is shaped like a willow leaf. Liuye Lake is a part of Dongting Lake, located in the northwest of Dongting Lake, also known as Xidongting.
