Yanling County, formerly known as Ling County, is affiliated to Zhuzhou City, Hunan Province. It is located in the southeastern border of Hunan and at the western foot of Jinggang Mountain. It was renamed Yanling County in 1994 because "the city has a sacred mausoleum" - Emperor Yan's mausoleum. . Yanling County is located in the middle section of the Luoxiao Mountains on the border of Hunan and Jiangxi. Yanling County is a mountainous county dominated by Zhongshan landforms, with mountainous areas accounting for 86.9% of the total area. The county is basically covered by two main mountain ranges, Bamian Mountain to the west and Wanyang Mountain to the southeast. The two mountain ranges are arranged in a "Y" shape and are both branches of the Nanling Mountains.
The entire terrain within the territory is high in the southeast and low in the northwest.
