Jiangshan bathed in spring, how beautiful, flowers send flowers.

Swallows are busy nesting in wet mud and sleeping in pairs on the warm beach.

The water waves in the river, the white feathers of waterfowl, the green and red flowers on the mountain are in contrast, and you want to burn.

This spring is coming to an end. When will I go home?

Vernacular translation:

The mountains and rivers are bathed in spring, so beautiful, and the spring breeze brings the fragrance of flowers and plants. Swallows are busy building nests with wet mud in their mouths, and couples of mandarin ducks are sleeping on the warm beach. The blue river reflects the snow-white feathers of waterfowl, and the gloomy mountains and red flowers are about to burn. This spring is coming to an end. What is the date of my return to China?

Creative background:

In the summer of the second year of Gan Yuan (759), there was a drought in Huazhou and Guanzhong, and Du Fu was worried about the chaos and lamented the suffering of domestic refugees. After beginning of autumn this year, Du Fu felt sad about the dirty politics, gave up his secretarial position in Huazhou to join the army, and went to Qin Zhou in the west (now Tianshui, Gansu). Du Fu wrote more than 30 poems during his tenure in Huazhou.

Du Fu finally arrived in Chengdu after several twists and turns. With the help of Yanwu and others, he built a thatched cottage on the banks of Huanhuaxi in the west of the city, which was called "Du Fu Cottage" or "Huanhuacao Hall" in history. Later, it was recommended by Yanwu as the festival capital, and the whole family lived in fengjie county, Sichuan. In the spring of the second year of Guangde (764), Du Fu returned to the thatched cottage when he was in Shuzhen, and this group of five-character quatrains was created by Du Fu at this time.

"Two Poems" vividly and naturally depicts the beautiful scenery of spring full of vitality, and reflects Du Fu's leisurely feelings arising from his temporary quiet life in the thatched cottage after wandering hardships.
