First of all, the difference between the two
Hu Aishan is the name of the finished product of Chinese yam. The scientific name of this plant is Dioscorea, which is a perennial vine of Dioscorea in Dioscoreaceae. Its roots can be used as food. It is mainly distributed in the south of China and grows in the slopes and valleys at an altitude of 150- 1500m. As a short-day plant, controlling light time is helpful to flower bud differentiation, tuber development and nutrient accumulation.
Second, the introduction of plants
1. Morphological characteristics: The tuber of Dioscorea opposita is cylindrical, with a length of 1 m, and its cross section is white when dried. Its stems are mostly purplish red, usually growing right-handed, and the surface is hairless. Some of its leaves are alternate, some are opposite, and a few are trilobal. The shape of leaves is changeable, and most of them are wide ellipses at seedling stage, and will become triangles or halberds when they grow up. Its flowers are spikes, with 2-8 male inflorescences and 3 female inflorescences1-,with purple-brown spots on the petals, which usually bloom in June-September.
2. Growth habit: Yam is suitable to grow in hillsides and valleys between150-1500m above sea level, and can be found in streams and roadside shrubs. It is a short-day crop, and the temperature requirement is 15-20℃ in seedling stage and 25-28℃ in peak season. If the soil is loose and fertile, plants will grow quickly. It has a certain drought tolerance, but it is not waterlogged, so it can't be planted in low-lying places, so as to avoid flooding roots and affecting growth.
3, how to maintain: Yam likes light, long-term light can make its branches and leaves more lush, but it will affect the development of rhizomes, which is not conducive to increasing production, so we must control the light time. Its demand for water is not great. Potted plants are generally watered thoroughly, and ground planting is suitable for shallow irrigation, not flooding. In addition, if sufficient base fertilizer is applied when planting, topdressing is basically not needed during the growth period.
