The school was formerly known as Zaozhuang Teacher Training School established in 1971, Zaozhuang Teacher Training College approved by the People's Government of Shandong Province in 1984, upgraded to Zaozhuang College in May 2004 with the approval of the Ministry of Education, Zaozhuang Teachers' Training School in 2012 (formerly known as Industrial High School founded in 1908) merged into our school. Prof. Wang Zikun and Prof. Yao Jianquan, academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, are honorary presidents.

The school now has two campuses in Shizhong and Xuecheng, the Shizhong campus covers an area of 1,027 acres, with a campus area of 390,000 square meters; the Xuecheng campus, which is under construction, covers an area of 1,885 acres, with a planned total construction area of 790,000 square meters. The total value of fixed assets is 1.2 billion yuan, and there are 22 experimental teaching centers, among which the Computer Experimental Teaching Center and Biology Experimental Center are the experimental teaching demonstration centers of Shandong Province higher education institutions, and the total value of teaching and research instruments and equipment is more than 300 million yuan. The library has a collection of 4.7 million books.

The university enrolls students from 25 provinces (municipalities and autonomous regions) as well as Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan, and has nearly 20,000 full-time students. There are more than 1,400 faculty and staff, with 94% of teachers with doctoral and master's degrees, more than 450 professors and associate professors, and more than 120 full-time and part-time doctoral and master's supervisors.
