The tunnel bottom of Zhegushan Tunnel is more than 3,4 meters above sea level, the lowest temperature is more than minus 3 degrees Celsius, and the air oxygen content is only 6% of the sea level. It is a typical highway tunnel with high altitude, high cold and low oxygen content. The tunnel is located along the fault fracture zone, and the geology is extremely complicated, which concentrates almost all the intractable diseases of tunnel construction in high altitude areas in the world, and is vividly called "the plateau tunnel disease museum of the life forbidden zone" by tunnel experts.

during the construction, officers and men of the second detachment of the first corps of the Armed Police Traffic Force adopted advanced excavation equipment and drilling and blasting technology, and applied advanced technology to solve many world-wide problems such as glacial debris flow accumulation, large landslide, large water gushing and large deformation, which ensured the effective connection of the three major processes of tunnel excavation, initial support and secondary lining, and formed many scientific and technological achievements such as pipe shed grouting and concrete freeze-thaw construction. The officers and men of the Armed Police Traffic Force also adopted technical measures such as heavy structural jacking, grouting reinforcement and bridging, which created a precedent for the construction of highway tunnels on the plateau in China to control the catastrophic collapse, and created a miracle of "zero casualties" in safe construction and "zero deviation" in tunnel entrance handover since the start of construction.

The completed Zhegu Mountain Tunnel has a clear width of 9 meters, a pavement width of 7.5 meters, a driving speed of 4 kilometers per hour, shortening the highway mileage by 45 kilometers, and shortening the original one-hour driving time to 9 minutes. At the same time, the Zhegu Mountain Tunnel successfully avoided the most dangerous section of the Zhegu Snow Mountain, ensured the smooth traffic of the Zhegu Mountain section of National Highway 317 throughout the year, and successfully connected Sichuan with Gansu, Qinghai, Tibet and other provinces and regions.
