Are sea bream poisonous?
The sea bream is a tropical saltwater fish also known as a pufferfish or blowfish. Sea pomfrets contain a neurotoxin called tetrodotoxin, which is enriched in the fish's internal organs, skin and eggs.

The pomfrets are extremely potent toxins capable of causing severe symptoms of poisoning, including muscle paralysis, respiratory distress, cardiac arrhythmias and central nervous system failure. Pomfrets are toxic to humans and in many cases the poisoning is fatal.

The sea bream is therefore a poisonous fish. To ensure personal safety, it is strongly recommended that you do not attempt to consume sea bream or other toxic puffer fish unless professionally handled and cooked by an experienced and professionally qualified chef under strict supervision and approval. In case of accidental consumption of toxic fish, please seek immediate medical attention for professional treatment.
