In the case of steaming yam, it takes about 8 minutes for a piece of yam to ripen easily, and it takes about 15 minutes for a thick piece of yam, while it takes about 20 minutes for a yam segment.
If you use a pressure cooker, it will be faster. Sheet 5 minutes, thick block 10 minutes or so, and ammunition section only needs 15 minutes or so.
The most convenient way to judge that yam is steamed is to poke it with chopsticks. Yam contains a lot of starch, so when it is ripe, it will become soft, and chopsticks will be cooked without hardness.
