Brandy classification and grades
Cognac is a distilled spirit produced in the Garonne Valley region of France. It is classified into different grades according to the vintage and the strictness of the production process. The specific classifications and grades are as follows:

1. VS: VerySpecial. This refers to brandy that is more than 2 years old.

2. VSOP: VerySuperiorOldPale (Very Superior Aged Old Brandy). It refers to products whose age is between 4 and 6 years.

3. XO: ExtraOld. Refers to products whose age is at least 10 years.

4. Horsd'age: Aged Old Brandy Beyond Time. This grade refers to old wines whose vintage cannot be determined and whose age is usually more than 15 years.

In addition, there are some non-statutory classifications of brandy, such as Napoleon, Extra or VieuxReserva, etc., which are names set by the merchants themselves.
