Crataegus pinnatifida is a shallow-rooted tree species with underdeveloped taproots, but it has strong growth ability and can grow in barren mountainous areas. The lateral roots are shallow, mostly distributed in the soil layer 30 ~ 60 cm below the surface, and the deepest part can reach 90 cm. There are few roots in the soil layer above 10 cm and below 90 cm. Lateral roots are mainly distributed in the soil layer of about 40 cm, and the horizontal distribution range of roots is 2 ~ 3 times that of crowns. Hawthorn seedlings took root later that year after they were planted. Therefore, the ground growth is weak in the first year of field planting, and it becomes stronger after the seedlings are delayed in the second year, and then it becomes stronger every year. But when pruning, you can't throw it away because it is growing vigorously, or even cut off the outstretched branches. This will affect the firmness of tree structure and skeleton and the reasonable distribution of branches. Although it may bear fruit early, it has a small bearing area and low yield.
