Timothy grass matures in the fall of each year.
Timothy grass, prefers cool, moist climates. Overwintering is good. Begins to green up in the spring when temperatures are above 5 degrees, and stops growing in the fall when temperatures are below 5 degrees. More tolerant of flooding, intolerant of drought. In 35 degrees above the sustained high temperature and dry conditions, can not rest through the summer. Neutral and weakly acidic soils are required. Weakly tolerant of alkalinity, and grows poorly on calcareous soils.

Long-lived, usually grows for 6 to 7 years and can live for 10 to 15 years under better management conditions. Because it is high in fiber and low in protein, timothy grass is ideal for use as a rabbit's main grass. The fiber in the grass helps speed up gastrointestinal motility, helps rabbits grind their teeth while eating, and prevents problems such as urinary tract stones and overweight.
