The story of the Maiden of the Field Snail is abbreviated as follows:
Once upon a time there was a young man who was very industrious. One day he went out to the fields to plow and picked up a large snail, which he couldn't bear to eat, so he kept it in a tank of water next to the stove.
The next night he came home and saw that the house was clean and the food was ready, and he felt very strange. The third morning he woke up and was about to cook, but the meal was ready again. After dinner he wanted to try it out, so he didn't do any housework. When he came home in the evening, he saw that all the chores were done.
The young man thought the old lady next door had done it, but the old lady said no. So he came up with an idea, in the morning he went to work in the fields and came home before noon, only to see a girl cooking, the girl saw someone coming and jumped into the water tank and disappeared.
The young man told this to the old lady next door, who heard it and gave him an idea. So he stopped working in the fields and hid in the doorway and waited for the girl to come out. He waited until the evening, when he pushed the door in and found that nothing had been done, so he had to do it himself. And so it went on for six days, with the same result, and he was disappointed.
On the seventh day, he went to work. When he came home after the work, he was happy to see that the meal was ready again. And so he worked hard every day.
Until one day he woke up early and found the snail girl cooking. He quietly hid the snail shell. When the snail girl found out, she asked him for the shells, but he wouldn't give them to her. He told the snail girl that he liked her and wanted to marry her. When she heard this, she agreed.
From then on, they became more industrious and lived comfortably.
