Types of peach:
The more important varieties of peach include nectarine, flat peach, longevity peach, and green peach. Among them, nectarines and flat peaches are both cultivated as fruit trees. Shouxing peaches and green peaches are mainly for ornamental purposes. Shouxing peaches can also be used as dwarfing stocks of peaches. The tree is 4 to 5 meters tall, with reddish-brown branches. The leaves are mostly lanceolate, with serrated leaf edges. Nectaries often grow at the base of the petiole. The flower types include rose-shaped and bell-shaped.
With the exception of flat peaches, stone fruits are mostly round or oblong. The fruit surface, except for nectarines, is covered with hairs. The flesh is white, yellow, or reddish, and a few are red. The flesh is soft, crisp, hard, or dense and tough. The surface of the core has different groove patterns, which are important basis for classification of species and varieties. Nectarine varieties are hairless on the outside of the fruit and are produced in various provinces and regions in Xiqian and Benbei, especially in Xinjiang and Gansu.
