1, germination stage
The stage when garlic seeds are sown in the soil and wait for new leaves to grow is called germination stage, during which garlic seeds will grow roots and new leaves. Different varieties of garlic will grow new leaves at different times, which takes 7-30 days.
2. Seedling stage
Garlic will enter the seedling stage after germination, and the young leaves that can't continue to grow will become flower buds. The leaves will gradually increase with the growth of the root system, but the number will not increase. The root system will also grow from vertical to horizontal, and begin to grow lateral fibrous roots to absorb nutrients from the soil.
3, flower bud and bulb differentiation stage
After the young leaves of garlic turn into flower buds, they will enter the differentiation stage of flower buds and scale buds. It is necessary to irrigate compound fertilizer and turning green water in time to provide sufficient nutrients, which is the key period of plant growth. When the nutrients are insufficient, the leaves without differentiation will turn yellow and affect the yield.
4, garlic shoot extension period
After the flower buds of garlic are completely differentiated, they turn into garlic shoots. Weeding in intertillage and continuous watering can increase the air permeability of the soil, promote the growth of garlic shoots, and also increase the toughness of leaves until the watering is stopped three days before harvesting.
5, garlic expansion period
After the young garlic shoots are harvested, they should be watered and topdressing with compound fertilizer. The nutrients that promote the growth of leaves will make the garlic swell. At this time, it is necessary to build a sunshade to prevent the garlic from being burned by the excessive light, and the water and fertilizer should be suspended five days before the harvest.
