What is sausage fruit?
Weenie originated in Sri Lanka, and later spread to India, Myanmar and southwest China. Because of the special island climate in Sri Lanka, the sausages produced there are of the best quality. Weenie is the fruit of a weenie tree, generally 30 to 50 cm long. The fruit is long, and the pulp and stone are wrapped in a hard shell. The flesh is round, flaky and dark red. Medullary stone can be used as medicine, which has the effect of clearing heat, moistening intestines and relaxing bowels. Weenie fruits are recorded by both Tibetans and Dai people in China, and included in Tibetan medical classics, Wang Yue yiguang, Four Medical Codes and China Tibetan Medicine.
