Hazelnut English: filbert.
Hazelnut, also known as mountain chestnut, sharp chestnut or whip, is a deciduous shrub or small tree of the genus Hazel of the family Betulaceae, with a height of about 1-7 m. Hazelnuts have yellowish-brown fruits, close to a sphere, with a diameter of 0.7-1.5 cm, and ripening in September-October. Hazelnut is an international best-selling valuable dried fruit and one of the world's four largest dried fruits (walnuts, almonds, hazelnuts, cashews).
First of all, it should be treated with low temperature i.e. sand storage. The temperature is controlled at 1-5℃ for 2-3 months. That is, sand storage in February, April sowing. Sand storage method should choose a high and dry place without rodent damage. Dig holes 0.6 meters to 1 meter deep, 0.5 meters wide ditch, if the seeds are less, you can use wooden boxes for sand storage.
Sand storage of seeds before the bottom of the ditch or the bottom of the box to lay a layer of about 4cm thick net wet sand, and then pour the mixture of seeds and sand into the ditch or the box, the thickness of which should not be more than 50cm, and then sprinkled with a layer of about 4cm thick net wet sand. Then cover with 15cm thick soil or cover with grass curtain. Wooden box sand storage needs to be put into the ditch or vegetable cellar.
The nursery land should be selected as a sandy loam land with moderate leveling, deep soil layer, sufficient fertility and good drainage. The ground should be y turned, 20-30cm depth is appropriate, can effectively eliminate the eggs of insects in the soil and improve the water retention capacity, through the loosening of the land to achieve the purpose of ripening the soil.
