Pharmacological action ① cardiotonic effect

Periploca Periploca preparation (water-soluble substance extracted with ethyl ether and ethanol) stops the heart of in-situ frog in contraction phase, the blood pressure of in-situ cat increases, the contractility of heart increases, and the minute output of exhausted cat heart (cardiopulmonary device) increases. The skin extract B (extracted by chloroform and ethanol) has also been proved to have a general cardiac glycoside effect in the heart and ECG experiments of in-situ cats. Ascoside and Ascoside from the root bark of Greek Periploca Periploca have quick action, short duration and weak accumulation.

② Sedative action

Periploca Periploca extract B has no sedative effect on mice, while Periploca Periploca tincture and Periploca Periploca solution all show central excitement, which may be caused by its volatile components.

③ Other functions

Ascleoside can increase pulmonary circulation under certain conditions. Clinically, strengthening the heart is beneficial to the defecation. In addition, Periploca paliurus has insecticidal effect.

④ Biological activity

The cat unit of Periploca Periploca preparation is 0.176g. Periploca Periploca extract B is 1.6 mg/kg. Ascleoside 1 g contains 5780 cat units, which has low accumulation and shorter action time than that of strophantoside G.

Toxicity: The root bark of Periploca Periploca (North Acanthopanax) is used to replace the southern Acanthopanax (bark or root bark of Acanthopanax or Acanthopanax of Araliaceae). Care should be taken when making acanthopanax bark wine, because acanthopanax bark has a strong cardiotonic effect, and it is easy to be poisoned if used too much. Injected into animals, it can make their blood pressure rise extremely high, and it can kill them in about 3 ~ 20 minutes; The cortex acanthopanacis is mild, and the blood pressure has not changed much after injection.
