Cucumber, (scientific name Cucumis

sativus

Linn, English name Cucumber), genus Cucumber, family Cucurbitaceae. It is also known as cucumber and zucchini. The fruit is oily green or emerald green in color, with small soft spines on the surface.

It is commonly cultivated throughout China and is now widely grown in temperate and tropical regions. Cucumber likes warmth and does not tolerate cold, as one of the main greenhouse products.

The cucumber was brought back to the Central Plains by Zhang Qian during his mission to the Western Regions in the Western Han Dynasty, and was known as the Hu melon. When the Five Hu Sixteen Kingdoms, Zhao Emperor Shi Le taboo "Hu" word, the Han minister Xiangguo county magistrate Fan Tan changed it to "cucumber".
