1. "Xugongdian, Suxin City" by Yang Wanli of the Song Dynasty
Original text: The fence is sparse and one foot deep, and the flowers on the tree heads have not yet formed shade. The children hurriedly chased the yellow butterfly, which flew into the cauliflower and was nowhere to be found.
Translation: Next to the long path, there are few fences, the flowers on the trees have fallen, but the leaves have not yet grown into dense shade (the season is late spring and early summer), and children are running. I was chasing the yellow butterfly, and the butterfly flew into the field of rapeseed flowers. There were yellow cauliflowers with the same color as the butterfly wings everywhere, and I couldn't find where the butterfly was hiding.
2. "Revisiting Xuandu Temple" by Liu Yuxi of the Tang Dynasty
Original text: The hundred-acre courtyard is half covered with moss, and the peach blossoms have all fallen and the cauliflowers are blooming. Where did the Taoist priest who planted peach go? I visited Liu Lang before and now he is here alone.
Translation: Half of the large courtyard of Xuandu Temple is covered with moss. The peach blossoms that were in full bloom have disappeared, and only the rapeseed flowers are in bloom. Where are those Taoist priests who worked so hard to grow peaches now? I, Liu Yuxi, who was banished from Chang'an last time because of reading the poem inscribed on it, am back again!
3. "Pastoral Miscellany in Four Seasons·Part 2" by Fan Chengda of the Song Dynasty
Original text: Plums are golden and apricots are fat, wheat flowers are snowy and cauliflowers are sparse. No one passes through the fence as the day progresses, only dragonflies and butterflies fly.
Translation: The plums on the trees turned golden, and the apricots grew bigger and bigger; the buckwheat flowers were all white, while the rapeseed flowers looked sparse. As the day grows longer, the shadow of the fence becomes shorter and shorter as the sun rises, and no one passes; only dragonflies and butterflies fly around the fence.
4. "Spring Day" Song Dynasty: Shi Xianwan
Original text: Outside the window, the sunny mountain is half covered by bamboo, and the bamboo roots are flowing with water and the sand is singing softly. The small garden is lonely in spring, with butterflies flying around the cauliflower.
Translation: Through the bamboo shadows by the window, you can see the clear sky and the green mountains. A small stream flows under the bamboo, and the water makes a thin sound through the sand. The garden is very quiet and spring is lovely. Butterflies can be seen flying around the rapeseed flowers.
5. "Occasionally" Song Dynasty: Ye Yin
Original text: Let the spring breeze take advantage of the horse's hooves, and the long day will bring peace to the green poplar embankment. The cauliflower falls under the fence, whose wine is flowing, and the bridle sings slowly across the stream.
Translation: The weather is getting warmer and the days are getting longer. When I have nothing to do, I take advantage of the spring breeze and ride a horse for a leisurely walk in the shade of the willow trees on the river embankment. The fenced courtyard surrounded by rapeseed flowers in the distance was a restaurant. I slowly reined in my horse and crossed the stream to have a drink.
