Yangcheng Lake is located in Suzhou City.
Yangcheng Lake is also known as Yangcheng Lake. In southern Jiangsu Province, it is five kilometers northeast of Suzhou City and spans Wuzhong District, Xiangcheng District and Kunshan City. On the bank of Yangcheng Lake, it borders Shanghai to the east and Suzhou to the west. Beijing-Shanghai Railway and Shanghai-Nanjing Expressway 312 National Highway all pass by the district. It is only half an hour's drive from Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport.
Yangcheng Lake covers an area of ??117 square kilometers, has a water storage capacity of 370 million cubic meters, and a total water surface of 180,000 acres. It is one of the lakes in the lower reaches of Taihu Lake and is a remnant of ancient Taihu Lake. There are two sand ridges lined up in the lake, dividing Yangcheng Lake into three lakes: East, Middle and West. East Lake is the largest, with a water depth of 1.7-2.5 meters; Middle Lake and West Lake have a water depth of 1.5-3.0 meters.
The reasons for the formation of Yangcheng Lake
1. Lagoon theory
The formation of Yangcheng Lake is due to the siltation of the river. The Taihu Lake, Yangcheng Lake, Dianshan Lake and other lake groups in the Yangtze River Delta region were originally large bays connected to the sea. Due to the eastward extension and recurvature of the Yangtze River and Qiantang River, part of the sea surface was surrounded and became an inland sea, with water from the mountains on both sides constantly pouring into it. , diluted the water of its inland sea and became a freshwater lake.
2. Tectonic Theory
Due to the neotectonic movement of the earth's crust in the Taihu Lake area, the Yangcheng Lake Plain sank, the rivers changed direction, and the Jingxi River system changed its course to flow eastward, turning into a rift basin and becoming a catchment. The basin gradually turned into several small swamp lakes, and later gradually formed Yangcheng Lake.
3. Meteorological theory
There were continuous heavy rains for thousands of years in ancient times. In some years, the annual precipitation even reached 600,000 tons. The large low-lying land in the Yangcheng Lake area accumulated a lot of water. Year after year, today's Yangcheng Lake was formed.
