It is forbidden to eat dogs, donkeys, cats, snakes, horses, farm beef, walk through fire ponds, step on pots and pans, and speak foul, foul and ugly words at home.

Taboos are part of primitive religion and are reflected in aspects such as childbirth, diet, marriage, pregnancy and death. The Mosuo people's taboos mainly include: everyone is prohibited from crossing the fire pool with their feet, it is prohibited to put water in the fire pool, they are not tired from working outside, and they are not allowed to come in to hold their babies. Abuse and discrimination against persons with disabilities are prohibited. When women have given birth, avoid entering the house after birth. Avoid eating dog, cat, and frog meat, and avoid hunting slow-banded birds. It is not advisable to use a knife to open the door to prevent male guests from getting on the female couch.
