Qinghai Lake fish called Qinghai Lake Huangshui, referred to as "Huangshui", the scientific name is called "Qinghai Lake naked carp", it is produced with the Heilongjiang "sturgeon" is two completely different fish. Qinghai Lake Huangshui is a specialty of Qinghai Lake, for the national second-class protected animals.

Huangshui naked, almost no scales, only sparse degradation of the scales. Huangshui's ancestor is the Yellow River carp, originally have scales, after the formation of Qinghai Lake occlusion lake, in order to adapt to the increasingly salty lake water, the Yellow River carp scales gradually degraded.

The Huangshui fish lives in the semi-saline water of Qinghai Lake, but still retains the habit of spawning in fresh water. At the beginning of spring and summer every year, Huangshui fish in groups against the current, to the shallow water upstream departure, spawning and then return to the brackish water area life.

Because of the Qinghai Lake lake water year-round low temperature, biological species and the number of rare, Huangshui growth is extremely slow, about one or two weight gain each year.
