As of May 2018, Alibaba's companies are Taobao and Yahoo China, while Taobao is a wholly owned subsidiary of Alibaba and Yahoo China is Alibaba's holding company.
Alibaba Network Technology Company Limited (Alibaba Group) was founded in 1999 in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province by 18 people led by Jack Ma, a former English teacher. The Alibaba Group operates a number of businesses, and also receives support in operating its business ecosystem from the businesses and services of its affiliates.
Alibaba's main businesses:
1. Taobao
Founded in May 2003, Taobao is the preferred online shopping platform for Chinese consumers who value choice, value and convenience. Taobao displays information on hundreds of millions of products and services and offers consumers a wide range of products and services.
2. Tmall
Founded in April 2008, Tmall is dedicated to providing the increasingly sophisticated Chinese consumer with a quality online shopping experience for top brand products.
3. Juhuaihua
Launched in March 2010, Juhuhuahuahua offers high-quality products at discounted prices through limited-time promotions that incorporate the needs of many consumers. Founded in April 2010, Global Xpress is a retail marketplace for global consumers, with users mainly from Russia, the United States and Brazil. Consumers around the world can purchase a wide range of different products directly from Chinese wholesalers and manufacturers at wholesale prices through Global Sizzler.
4. Alibaba International Marketplace
Alibaba International Marketplace, the first business created by the Alibaba Group, is the leading cross-border wholesale trade platform serving millions of buyers and suppliers worldwide. Small businesses can sell their products to other countries through Alibaba International Marketplace. Sellers on the Alibaba International Marketplace are typically manufacturers and distributors from China and other producing countries such as India, Pakistan, the United States and Japan.
5. 1688
Founded in 1999, 1688 (formerly known as Alibaba China Marketplace) is China's leading online wholesaling platform. 1688 provides merchants operating in the Alibaba Group's retail marketplace with a channel to source products from local wholesalers.
6. Alimama
Founded in November 2007, Alimama is an online marketing technology platform that provides PC and mobile marketing services to sellers in Alibaba Group's marketplaces. In addition, AliMom also provides the same type of marketing services to these sellers through Taobao Affiliate, which is applicable to third-party websites.
7. AliCloud Computing
AliCloud Computing was founded in September 2009 and is committed to developing a highly scalable cloud computing and data management platform. Aliyun provides a suite of cloud computing services to support participants in the Alibaba Group's online and mobile commerce ecosystem, including sellers and other third-party customers and businesses.
8. Alipay
Alipay, founded in December 2004, is an affiliate of Alibaba Group and provides convenient, safe and reliable online and mobile payment and collection services for individual and corporate users. Alipay provides payment and guaranteed transaction services in China for transactions generated by Alibaba Group's platforms and for third parties. In addition, Alipay is the primary settlement method for buyers and sellers on Taobao and Tmall.
9. Cainiao Network
China Intelligent Logistics Backbone (or Zhejiang Cainiao Supply Chain Management Co., Ltd.), a wholly-owned subsidiary of an affiliate of the Alibaba Group, is dedicated to meeting the future logistics needs of China's online and mobile commerce industry. The China Intelligent Logistics Backbone operates a logistics information platform that provides real-time information to buyers and sellers on the one hand, and to logistics service providers on the other, to help them improve the efficiency and effectiveness of their services.
