Creation background
These two farewell poems are regarded as Tianbao Six Years of Emperor Xuanzong of Tang Dynasty (747), but the identity of Dong Da, the object of farewell, has not yet been determined. The remnant of Dunhuang's Selected Poems of the Tang Dynasty is called Biedong Wang Ling, which is not available in East Wang Ling. Some scholars believe that Dong Da was the famous pianist Dong at that time.
In the spring of the sixth year of Tianbao, Fang Guan, the official of the official department, was demoted to the DPRK, and the door boy Dong also left Chang 'an. At this time, Gao Shi was also very frustrated, often wandering around and in a bad situation. In the winter of the sixth year of Tianbao, Gao Shi and Dong met in Suiyang (so the address is now in the south of Shangqiu County, Henan Province) and wrote "Two Poems of Biedong University".
