Chaoyang District in Beijing belongs to the third and fourth rings. Because Chaoyang District has a relatively large geographical area, it is located in the area straddling the Third Ring Road and the Fourth Ring Road in Beijing. Chaoyang District is located in the south-central part of Beijing. It is located between 39°49' and 40°5' north latitude and between 116°21' and 116°38' east longitude. It borders Shunyi District and Changping District to the north, Tongzhou District to the east, Fengtai District and Daxing District to the south, and Haidian District, Dongcheng District and Xicheng District to the west. Historical evolution of Chaoyang District Chaoyang District belonged to Jizhou and Youzhou during Xia, Shang and Zhou dynasties. In February 1949, the Peiping Municipal Government temporarily divided the city into 32 districts, belonging to Districts 13, 14, 15, 19, and 20, as well as Shunyi and Tong counties in Hebei Province. In August 1950, after the order of Beijing's seven suburbs was changed to Districts 10 to 16, the areas under its jurisdiction were divided into Districts 10, 11, 14, and Shunyi and Tong counties in Hebei Province. In September 1952, the 14th District in the northern suburbs was abolished. District 10 was renamed Eastern Suburbs. District 11 was renamed Nanyuan District. Its jurisdiction belongs to the eastern suburbs of Beijing, Nanyuan District, Shunyi County and Tong County of Hebei Province. In August 1955, the zoning of Chaoyangmen, Dongbianmen and Guangqumen was adjusted. The jurisdiction includes Dongjiao District, Dongdan District, Dongsi District, Nanyuan District, Shunyi County, and Tong County of Hebei Province. In May 1958, the eastern suburbs was renamed Chaoyang District. In 1959, all the jurisdictions belonged to Chaoyang District.
