Green-shell laying hens, named after laying green-shell eggs, are unique to China and listed as "National Special Resource Protection Project" by the Ministry of Agriculture. This kind of chicken has strong disease resistance, wide adaptability, likes to eat grass and leaves, and its feeding management, epidemic prevention and disease removal are no different from ordinary domestic chickens.

Green shell laying hens are small, compact, agile, symmetrical, early in sexual maturity and high in egg production. Adult cocks weigh 3.2 ~ 4.5 Jin, hens weigh 1.9 ~ 3. 1 Jin, and lay eggs 160 ~ 180 a year.
