The highest elevation in Hailuogou is about 6750 meters and the lowest about 2850 meters.

Hailuogou glacier is one of the world's only remaining low altitude glaciers, with its lowermost elevation at only 2,850 meters, making it Asia's lowest altitude glacier and the closest modern glacier to the city.

Hailuogou is located in Muxi Town, Luding County, Ganzi Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Sichuan Province, and is an important part of the Gongga Mountain Scenic Spot and National Nature Reserve.
