Source: This product is the dry aerial part of mint. Plants of mint in Labiatae. In summer and autumn, when the stems and leaves are luxuriant or flowers bloom for three rounds, choose sunny days, cut them in stages, dry them in the sun or dry them in the shade.
Characteristics: The stem of this product is a square column with opposite branches, with a length of 15 ~ 40 cm and a diameter of 0.2 ~ 0.4 cm. The surface is purplish brown or light green, the edges and corners are fluffy, and the internodes are 2 ~ 5 cm long; Crispy, white in section and hollow in pith. Leaves opposite, with short stems; The leaves are shriveled and curled, and the intact ones are broadly lanceolate, oblong or oval, with a length of 2 ~ 7 cm and a width of 1 ~ 3 cm. The upper surface is dark green, and the lower surface is grayish green, with sparse hairs and sunken glandular scales. Cymes axillary, calyx bell-shaped, apex 5-toothed, corolla lavender. After kneading, it has a special cool aroma and a spicy and cool taste.
Identification (1) Leaf surface of this product: 8 cells in the head of glandular scale, about 90μm in diameter, single stalk; The head and handle of glandular hairs are single cells. Non-glandular hair 1 ~ 8 cells, often curved, thick-walled, slightly verrucous. The stomata in the lower epidermis are common and are straight axis type.
(2) Take a small amount of powder from the leaves of this product, slightly sublimate it to obtain an oil, add 2 drops of sulfuric acid and a small amount of vanillin crystals, and the initial yellow color will turn orange, and then add 1 drop of water to turn purple.
(3) Take 0.5g of this product powder, add 5ml of petroleum ether (60 ~ 90℃), plug it tightly, shake it evenly for several minutes, let it stand for 30min, filter it, and take the filtrate as the test solution. Another menthol reference substance was added with petroleum ether to prepare a solution containing 2 mg per kloc-0/ml as the reference substance solution. According to the thin-layer chromatography test (appendix ⅵ b), absorb the above-mentioned test solution10 ~ 20μ l and the reference solution 10μl, respectively, and spot them on the same silica gel G thin-layer plate, with benzene-ethyl acetate (19: 1) as the developing agent, unfold and take them out. In the chromatogram of the test sample, spots with the same color appear in the position corresponding to the chromatogram of the control sample.
Processing to remove old stems and impurities, slightly spraying water, slightly moistening, cutting into short sections, and timely drying at low temperature. This product is mostly a short section of 5 ~ 8 mm, dark green, purple brown or taupe. According to the above method under [content determination], the content of volatile oil shall not be less than 0.40% (ml/g).
The taste is pungent and cool.

Indications: evacuation of wind and heat. Clear head and penetrate rash. It can be used for treating wind-heat common cold, early onset of wind and temperature, headache, red eyes, laryngitis, aphtha, rubella, measles, and fullness in chest and hypochondrium.
Usage and dosage are 3 ~ 6g, and the decoction should be added later.
Store in a cool and dry place.
Remarks (1) are used for exterior syndrome of wind-heat without sweating, headache and red eyes, and are often combined with Schizonepeta, Mulberry Leaves, Chrysanthemum and Burdock. If you don't sweat when you have a cold, you can also use it with Perilla frutescens and Notopterygium Rhizoma. Mint has obvious effect of clearing throat, mainly used for wind-heat sore throat, and also has the effect of dispersing wind-heat. It is often used with Arctium lappa, Lasiosphaera Seu Bubali and Glycyrrhiza uralensis. It can also be used to treat sore throat and heat pain by blowing throat at the end of the study. Mint has the function of hair penetration, which can help measles penetrate. It can be used with Schizonepeta, Burdock and Cicada.
