A reads [jiǎ]

A, first seen in Oracle? , whose original meaning is the seed germination, the seed shell worn, that is, "Shuowen Jiezi": "A, the East of the Meng Yang Qi sprouting." Derived as the first place of the Tiangan order of the first place number, later derived as the first place, etc.

A, hieroglyphic characters. Like an animal's protective shell, which often has interlocking lines, or by the scales connected to become. "A" character in the Oracle was originally written in two ways

The two characters were initially different, the latter used in the "on the armor" and other personal names, the former used in the stem and branch. The character "甲" was easily confused with the character "十", which was later used in Figure 2 to indicate the stem and branch, so that the writing style of Figure 1 was not passed down after the Warring States period.

There were two variants of the character "甲" in the Chu system of writing in the Warring States period, but these two variants disappeared with the fall of the Chu state. The Qin script lengthened the middle vertical for "A", and this form was followed thereafter, with "A" written in regular script after the scribal change.
