It is recommended not to eat moldy rice. Frugal people can still eat the rice after it has been washed with salt several times and mixed with mostly good rice to dilute the mycotoxins and reduce the content of mycotoxins in the early stages of moldy rice, if it is not very serious. If the mildew is severe, it must not be eaten.
How to identify whether rice is moldy or spoiled
1. Dark color: Rice is dark and dull.
2. Dampness: The surface of the rice is slightly moist, commonly known as sweating.
3. Softness: The rice moisture increases, the hardness decreases, and the crisp sound weakens when rubbed with hands or chewed with teeth.
4. Fluffing: The rice is moist and stained with bran powder or the unground bran skin on the rice grains floats, making it appear rough and not smooth.
