The taste and appearance of naturally aged Pu-erh ripe tea must meet the sensory requirements for Pu-erh tea announced by the Yunnan Provincial Bureau of Standards and Metrology: brownish-red in color, reddish-rich and bright in color, with a distinctive aroma of aged tea, a mellow and sweet taste, and brownish-red on the bottom of the leaves.

So, if you buy Pu-erh tea and taste it, you feel sour, tobacco flavor, or too bitter, it may not even reach the minimum storage year, much less a good tea with a history of decades.
