Zhangzhou's unique holiday customs are as follows

1, Mid-Autumn Festival

August 15th of the lunar calendar is the traditional Mid-Autumn Festival. Before the festival, most rural areas in southern Fujian will buy Pingshan pomelo, Wendan pomelo or honey pomelo and display them in the hall. Only on this day will they be peeled off and distributed to the whole family to celebrate the reunion. On this night, urban and rural residents should enjoy the moon and eat moon cakes in the patio, doorway or balcony. Some rural women let their daughters worship God under the moon, commonly known as "Aunt Moon", and pray for a good marriage. Now these ancient customs are gradually being eliminated under the impact of new trends of thought.

2. Chongyang

The ninth day of the ninth lunar month is the traditional Double Ninth Festival. People along the coast of China will eat crab wine, climb mountains, visit places of interest and fly kites on this day. On this day, people can see all kinds of kites flying in the sky everywhere. In the past, people in Haicheng still tied lanterns to kites on this night, when the sky was full of lights, which was a spectacle.

It is a custom in Zhangzhou to eat sugar balls on the solstice in winter. On the eve of the festival, every household grinds glutinous rice into balls and puts them on bamboo curtains. When sweeping graves, you should sprinkle long strips of paper foil in the cemetery, weed and plant trees in the cemetery, and cultivate soil in the grave to express your memory of your deceased relatives. After the founding of People's Republic of China (PRC), schools, institutions and organizations organized grave sweeping, laying wreaths or planting pine trees in Tomb-Sweeping Day to express their memory of the revolutionary martyrs.
