1. Light requirements
Bright light is more suitable for the growth of birds of paradise, and the light supply must be sufficient. It is best to provide birds of paradise with more than 12 hours of light every day, and at least no less than 4 hours.
Although birds of paradise like light, they avoid direct exposure to strong light. In summer, when the light is too strong, it needs to be shaded appropriately to prevent the leaves of the bird of paradise from being sunburned. In winter, the light time is short, so it is necessary to provide adequate light for birds of paradise, and fluorescent lamps can be used.
2. Watering requirements
Bird of paradise likes water, but it is afraid of waterlogging. To water the bird of paradise, use the method of watering with small amounts of water frequently, and the pot soil should be kept moist. Summer is the growth period of bird of paradise, so watering once a day is enough. When the bird of paradise is in bloom, water it once a day. After flowering in early spring, just water once every three days.
3. Fertilization requirements
Birds of paradise like fertilizer. Before potting, the soil must be filled with enough base fertilizer. During the growth period of the bird of paradise, liquid fertilizer should be given to the bird of paradise every half month. Of course you can also add some fermented rice water.
In winter, the bird of paradise will enter a dormant state and does not need to be fertilized. If fertilizer is applied forcefully, it will cause damage to the roots of the bird of paradise.
4. Temperature requirements
Keeping the temperature between 15 degrees Celsius and 25 degrees Celsius is most conducive to the growth of birds of paradise. Once the temperature falls below 8 degrees Celsius in winter, it will affect the growth of the plants. Therefore, after winter, the bird of paradise plants should be moved indoors to a place that can receive sunlight for breeding.
5. Humidity requirements
When raising bird of paradise potted plants indoors, a certain air humidity must be maintained. If the air is too dry, the leaves will wilt or become scorched. You can spray some water appropriately around the potted plants to increase the humidity of the air. You can also place an air humidifier next to the plants. Of course, you can also put some pebbles on the bottom tray and fill it with some clean water.
6. Insect and disease prevention
During the growth of birds of paradise, the most common insect pest is scale insects. When the temperature is high in summer, scale insects are more likely to occur. Spray phosmet for control, spraying once a week. In autumn and winter, plants with weak growth are prone to anthracnose. If diseased leaves are found, they should be cut off and destroyed in time. You can spray a dilution of 25% bromomycin and apply foliar fertilizer.
