Columbia University, formally known as new york University in the city of New York, is a world-class private research university located in Manhattan, new york, USA, one of the 14 founding institutions in association of american universities and one of the Ivy League schools.
Columbia University was founded in 1754 according to the King's Charter promulgated by King George II of England. It was originally named King's College. In 1896, it was officially renamed as Columbia University and moved to its current Morning Heights campus. It was also renamed in memory of Columbus of discovery of america after the American Revolution. 1896 officially changed its name to Columbia University and moved to its current Morning Edge Highland campus.
At the beginning of its establishment, Columbia University has never awarded women degrees. After the tenth president of the school proposed that men and women should enjoy the same educational resources, he founded Barnard College in his own name. At the same time, although many other schools in the United States have begun to allow women to attend universities, Columbia University has refused to merge Barnard College.
